During this clip, we are taken on a journey of Carl and Ellie's relationship over many years. We know that time is passing during this montage as the seasons change and Carl and Ellie become noticeably older and mature.
For example, they start out as newly weds and progress their relationship by buying a house, trying for a baby, saving for a long-term wanted 'holiday' to "Paradise falls" and the montage ends as the couple as elderly and yet still in love.
The soundtrack used for this sequence reflects on the life experiences Carl and Ellie experience together. For example, during happy times such as getting married, picnic days and buying their first house, the music is more upbeat with a faster tempo however still the same tune.
At sad moments such as when Ellie loses her baby, the music remains the same tune but becomes softer and slower showing that the couple are going through a tough time however still deeply love each other.
The music also shows that bad situations don't seem to bother Carl and Ellie as long as they're together, for example when they have to constantly break into their funds for "Paradise Falls" the music remains cheerful as do Carl and Ellie.
Due to there being no film credits or titles during this clip, we can already see that Carl & Ellie's history is an essential part of this film as their life story is more important in the opening sequence than the names of the producers.
